When we launched the Soniox API, our goal was to empower every developer to explore what’s possible with the world’s most advanced voice AI — without barriers. To do that, we offered $200 in free credits, roughly equivalent to 2,000 hours of speech-to-text processing, so anyone could prototype and build at no cost.
We’ve been thrilled to see thousands of developers use these credits to create real products, test new ideas, and experience what accurate, real-time speech AI can unlock.
Unfortunately, in recent weeks we’ve also seen a rise in abuse of the free credit system — including mass signups using fake or duplicate Gmail accounts and applications ignoring our Terms of Service. This activity places unnecessary load on our systems and poses risk to legitimate developers already building with Soniox.
Effective Today
We’re taking the following actions to protect the integrity of our platform and community:
- Existing users — Accounts that do not match known abuse patterns will retain their existing free credits.
- Fraudulent signups — Accounts identified as spam or abusive will have credits removed and may be deleted as we continue our review.
- New signups — We will no longer offer free credits going forward. Developers who are serious about building with Soniox can still get started easily with pay-as-you-go pricing.
We’re disappointed to make this change, but it’s the right step to ensure stability, fairness, and reliability for everyone using Soniox in production. Our focus remains on advancing the most accurate and intelligent real-time voice AI in the world — not on chasing bad actors.
